Rik Wouters exposition Saturday 10 June 2017

RIK WOUTERS
Location: Museum of Ancient Art, Rue de la Régence 3, 1000 Brussels
Saturday 10 June 2017 at 15.30

Following the extra lecture, by Philippe Saint on Thursday 8 June, on this prolific Belgian artist, fauvist painter, sculptor, engraver and draughtsman, we will visit THE exhibition which marks the centennial of his death. Together with a lively very well-informed guide, we will follow the artist’s too short career.

Born in Malines, the son of a sculptor of furniture decorations, Hendrik Emil Wouters trained in his father’s workshop before joining the Academy of Fine Arts, first in Malines then in Brussels. There he met Hélène Duerinckx, nicknamed “Nel”, a model, his muse and future wife. Mobilised during the horrors of the First World War, he was later interned in a POW camp in the Netherlands and released when a cancer of the jaw was diagnosed. He died of this shortly before reaching the age of 34.

His tender, colourful works will enliven our day.

Meet: Saturday, 10 June 17 @ 15:15 inside the Museum, near the info point in the large room after the entrance hall. Free lockers are available for your coats, etc.

Detailed instructions will be sent to all participants before the event.

Price: Members:  EUR 12 ----- Non-members:  EUR 15
